So, one thing my angels taught me, and I taught my children: listen.
Even if you are super smart. Even if you already know. Even if you've heard it a million times.
There are always teachers all around you. Never stop learning.
If someone is kind enough, cares enough, to offer you their knowledge, their expertise, their experience – listen. You don't have to use their information. You don't have to change your mind or change your behavior or do things the way they would. They may be right, they may even be wrong. But there is value in listening. Just stop talking long enough to really listen. If you do that, you then have the information they are sharing with you and you can decide what to do with it after that. It may all be great information, it may all be junk… or there may be one tiny nugget in what they said that will change everything for you.
A truly wise person listens when others are offering their knowledge and experience. A wise person knows that they don't know everything and that others may have pieces to the puzzle that they don't possess.
You should never substitute another's judgement for your own. But you should always want to learn and gather as much information as you can. And never assume you know everything.
This way of being in the world has served me well in my life.
